Guest researchers at 3d.FAB!

We are pleased to welcome two guest researchers at the 3d.FAB platform on two different topics:

  • Tumor 3D Bioprinting
  • 3D printing silicon and mechanochromic material to produce implants with inbuilt photonic strain sensor

Dr. Wenjin Xiao got her PhD in chemical system engineering from University of Tokyo in 2014, developing the integration of chemical engineering methods with cell biology to obtain a relevant liver microenvironment in order to realize cell-based therapies and assays. During 3 years of postdoctoral training with Dr Adam Perriman at the University of Bristol, she worked on cell surface engineering with synthetic biomolecules in order to modulate stem cell behaviour used in tissue engineering and regenerative medicine. She is currently a postdoctoral research fellow funded by Cancer Research and Personalised Medicine (CARPEM) in University Paris Descartes. Her research interests cover the multidisciplinary fields of biochemistry, cell biology, biomaterials & tissue engineering and cancer research.

Dr. David Eglin is Principal Investigator and leader of the Polymers team at the AO Research Institute Davos in Switzerland. He has extensive expertise in the synthesis and the processing of responsive materials based on biopolymers such as hyaluronic acid and collagen. His group is notably using additive manufacturing technologies for both basic understanding of biomaterials and cells interaction, and for translational research in the orthopaedic field. In 2011, David Eglin was given the Jean Leray award by the European Society for Biomaterials for outstanding research contributions to the field of biomaterials. He has published over 100 peer-reviewed articles and book chapters, as well as 8 patents. He is president of the Swiss Society for Biomaterials and Regenerative Medicine and council member of the European chapter of the TERMIS Society
